This nationally recognised course is designed for individuals who are required to act as a Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) within their workplace. It provides the essential skills and knowledge to supervise safe food handling practices and ensure compliance with the Food Act 2003 (NSW), Food Regulation and Food Standards Code.
Food Safety Supervisors play a critical role in protecting public health by overseeing day to day food handling operations and reducing the risk of foodborne illness.
Participants will develop the skills and knowledge to:
- Apply food safety standards and organisational hygiene procedures
- Identify, control, and prevent food hazards and contamination
- Safely handle food during storage, preparation, display, service, and disposal
- Monitor and maintain food safety programs and procedures
- Implement effective cleaning, sanitising, and personal hygiene practices
- Supervise and train staff to ensure ongoing compliance
Units of Competency:
- SITXFSA005 – Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety
- SITXFSA006 – Participate in Safe Food Handling Practices
Certification:
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive:
- A Statement of Attainment for:
- SITXFSA005 – Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety
- SITXFSA006 – Participate in Safe Food Handling Practice
- A NSW Food Safety Supervisor Certificate issued by an approved provider (meeting NSW Food Authority requirements
Licensing & NSW Requirements:
Under the Food Act 2003 (NSW) and Food Safety Standard 3.2.2A, many food businesses must appoint at least one certified Food Safety Supervisor per premises.
- Businesses that prepare and sell ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous food must have an FSS
- The nominated supervisor must be trained and deemed competent in these units through an approved Registered Training Organisation
- Certification must be kept current and renewed every 5 years
- To receive a NSW Food Safety Supervisor Certificate, participants must successfully complete both SITXFSA005 and SITXFSA006, along with any NSW-specific requirements
