  • HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an education and care setting

This course equips participants with the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children, and adults in line with guidelines from the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other national clinical bodies.

It is designed for workers in education and care settings, including early childhood educators, school-age care staff, and those working in outside school hours or vacation programs. The training covers emergencies such as asthma, anaphylaxis, choking, bleeding, fractures, and CPR for all age groups, ensuring compliance with the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations (2011).

Participants will learn to:

  • Recognise and respond to emergencies using the DRSABCD action plan.
  • Perform CPR on infants, children and adults, including safe AED use.
  • Manage unconscious casualties and place them in the recovery position.
  • Respond to common childhood illnesses, injuries, asthma and anaphylaxis
  • Communicate and document incident details effectively.

This unit may contribute towards approved first aid, asthma, and anaphylaxis training required under national education and care regulations.

The key aims of childcare first aid:

  • Give first aid to infants and children using ARC guidelines.
  • Respond safely and quickly in emergencies.
  • Perform CPR and manage asthma or anaphylaxis.
  • Report and communicate incident details clearly.

Course Requirements:

Compulsory Online course learning material to be completed 2 days before class commencement.

A Statement of Attainment will be issued for units completed in this course.
